The St. Paul girls track team claimed their fourth TAPPS 2A state title in a row this past weekend ( May 4-5, 2018 ).at Hewitt Midway High School near Waco.

The Lady Cardinals scored 125 points to soar past Waco Live Oak Classical who had 90 points.

“I am really proud of these young ladies. They have worked hard to earn this title. A lot of hours went into this title.,” Lady Cardinals coach Dana Beal-Sestak said. “We needed them to step up and perform and they did.”

“It is always important for seniors to perform well in their last competition. It’s the one meet they will equate to their high school career. I’m happy for this group of girls.”

Parker Clay earned a pair of golds in field events in the shot put and discus. Clay set a state-meet and personal record in the shot put with a throw of 47 feet and won the discus with 130-6.

“It takes a lot of hard work and determination to make the improvements Parker has made since her freshman year. She set a new record last year so it was a personal goal of hers to set another record. She always has goals and to see her handle the pressure knowing it was her last high school meet was exciting,” Beal-Sestak said.

The 1,600-meter relay team won a gold medal as well with a time of 4 minutes, 18.04 seconds.

The Cardinal boys got runner up with 96 points as Dallas First Baptist Academy won with 105.50 points.

Kai Giese won the long jump with a distance of 20-4.
