TC-Cedar Hill's title bid thwarted by Shiner St. Paul

CEDAR CREEK -- Shiner St. Paul's T.J. Bell rushed for 225 yards and scored five touchdowns to help his team claim the TAPPS Division III state championship with a 43-40 win over Trinity Christian Cedar Hill on Friday (December 4, 2015) at Bastrop Memorial Stadium.

St. Paul (14-0) jumped out to a 25-7 lead in the first half, but 19 consecutive points helped TC-Cedar Hill (10-4) take a 26-25 lead after Isiah Davis found the end zone for the second time on a 7-yard run early in the fourth quarter.
Down for the first time and facing a third-and-21, St. Paul quarterback Austin Barton looked off a defender and found Bell for a 65-yard touchdown pass to put the Cardinals back up 31-26 with 8:45 to go in the game. TC-Cedar Hill took the lead back on the next possession when Malachi Broadnax hit Marvin White for a 9-yard touchdown pass to make it 32-31.
On the ensuing kickoff, Bell helped St. Paul take the lead for good when he raced 78 yards untouched to make it 37-32. TC-Cedar Hill drove to the St. Paul 31, but Connor Kresta brought down Davis on a fourth-and-3 to give the ball back to the Cardinals. Three plays later, Bell iced the game with a 54-yard touchdown run to make it 43-32.
Broadnax, who finished 22-of-38 for 364 yards and four touchdowns through the air, led his team on one final touchdown drive. But the ensuing onside kick was recovered by St. Paul.
St. Paul rushed for 348 yards on 46 carries. Bell scored touchdowns rushing, receiving and on a kick return. Barton completed just two passes, but both went for touchdowns, on plays of 55 and 65 yards.
