The football playoffs get underway at the end of this week for both local teams.
The Shiner Comanches face Santa Maria in the bi-district round for the second year in a row. They will play Thursday ( November 15, 2018 ) in Sinton. The Shiner St. Paul Cardinals will host Legacy Prep Christian Academy from The Woodlands on Friday ( November 16, 2018 ).

The Cardinals host the Lions in a first-round playoff game at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow ( Friday, November 16, 2018 ) at Comanche Stadium.
“They have winning tradition. They were state finalists last year,” Cardinals head coach Jake Wachsmuth said.
“They did lose some players from that team but they will come in, knowing they can win so they can repeat.”
The Lions run a spread out of the shotgun, using either one or two backs in the backfield.
Wachsmuth said that the key offensive player for Legacy Prep is quarterback Jack Granack.
“During practice this week, we will need to learn their favorite plays and focus on shutting down the run game,” he said.
The Lions line up in an odd-man front on defense, usually a sevenman front with a nose guard.
Wachsmuth said the Cardinals must execute well, protect the ball and not miss assignments.
