This week ( Friday, October 19, 2018 ), the Shiner St. Paul Cardinals begin district play at Temple Central Texas Christian. The Shiner Comanches come home after a 2-1 road trip including opening district with a 42-8 win at Yorktown.

The Cardinals are on the road for the first time since Sept. 21 and are playing their TAPPS Division IV-3 opener at Temple Central Texas Christian.
“We are looking at this as a brand new start,” Cardinals head coach Jake Wachsmuth said.
The Lions are 7-0 on the season, scoring an average of 47 points a game and giving up 8.2 points a game.
St. Paul is still seeking its first win of the season.
“They have a good record. I feel our schedule has been more difficult. They do have confidence,” Wachsmuth said. “I feel this is a game we can win but Central Texas Christian has some advantages.”
Central Texas Christian has been extremely successful running the football with 2,467 yards (352.4 a game) and 38 touchdowns.
Rylan Turner is over the 1,000-yard mark with 1,425 yards on 111 carries and 21 touchdowns. Jacob Shipp has rushed 54 times for 369 yards and nine touchdowns. Quarterback Braydon Davis has hit 36-of-62 passes for 645 yards, six touchdowns and six interceptions. The Lions leading receiver is Turner who has 206 yards and four touchdowns.
“Our defense will need to know what the Lions like to do running the ball,” Wachsmuth said. “We will attack their run game and make them pass.”
St. Paul moved the ball well and put points on the board last week against Brentwood Christian. “We did some good things, eliminated a lot of penalites,” Wachsmuth said. “We need to completely eliminate turnovers, be consistent and not have negative plays, and get behind the sticks.”
St. Paul last played Central Texas Christian in 2015.
