The St. Paul Cardinals won their ninth game in as many tries as they closed out the regular season with a 43-0 shutout against San Marcos Baptist Academy.

Senior running back Tre’Zell Jenkins-Perry accounted for half of the Cardinals’ touchdowns as he rushed for 95 yards and three touchdowns. Joseph Natal ran for 80 yards and a touchdown while Conor Kresta ran for 72 yards and a touchdown, and hauling in a 45-yard touchdown pass.

The Cardinal struck twice in the first quarter — Kresta had a 4-yard run at the 7:18 mark and Jenkins-Perry scored on a 17-yard run with 3:42 left.

Two minutes into the second box, Kresta caught his touchdown pass from River Haynes; Jenkins-Perry scored on 3-yard run with 4:46 left and the Cardinals did an uncommon thing for them: they attempted a field goal. Kicker Frank Benes was good from 28 yards at the buzzer, giving St. Paul a 31-0 halftime lead.

The Cardinals scored early in the third on a 37-run from Jenkins-Perry for his third score and Natal scored from 58 yards out 14 seconds into the final quarter.

As district champions, St. Paul will have first-round (area) bye for the Division IV playoffs.
