The Cardinals (4-0, 1-0) hold their first district home game as they welcome Boerne Geneva, who won the district last year.
“It is going to be big challenge to play them this year,” St. Paul head coach Jake Wachsmuth said. “They were the district champions last year and we lost to them when we played at their place.”
Geneva is a spread offense that runs out of shotgun, pistol and noback formation. Their offense is mostly a balanced attack but can hurt with the passing game. Will Langenbahn is the leading passer as he is currently 51-of-76 for 635 of Geneva’s 779 passing yards, with nine touchdowns and one interception. The leading receiver is Easton Myrick who has caught 17 passes for 246 yards and four touchdowns.
Their ground game is led by Devin Ahrens who has 61 rushes for 441 yards and five touchdowns.
Wachsmuth said Geneva made several big passing plays in last year’s game.
“We have to make sure we are lined up right and not give up those big plays in the passing game,” he said.
Leading defenders are Joseph Hohne (31 tackles) and Ethan Houser (25 tackles). St. Paul’s offense will need to cut back and eliminate the mistakes.
“Last week, we had some turnovers and put the ball on the ground. We had penalties that turned a 2-and-3 into a 2-and-8,” Wachsmuth said. “Those kind of mistakes have to be cleaned up.”
