The St. Paul Cardinals continued their playoff dominance with a 56-12 TAPPS state quarterfinals win over Austin Texas School for the Deaf in Giddings on Friday (November 20, 2015).

They jumped out to a 14-point lead by the end of the first quarter with a rushing touchdown by T.J. Bell, his first of three touchdowns on the night, and an 85 yard pass from Austin Barton to Nathan Pilat. Pilat also had a crucial interception in the end zone midway through the first quarter to keep the Rangers off the board.

In the second quarter, Barton ran the ball in from the two yard line for a touchdown and Bell added another on a 15-yard run. In between the two, however, the Rangers scored on a 39 yard pass by their quick-footed quarterback.

These were the first points the Cardinal defense had given up since October 23 against Temple Central Texas Christian.

St. Paul went into halftime with a 27-6 lead. The teams each managed a touchdown a piece in the third quarter, the Rangers on another passing play and the Cards on a 35 yard run by Jed Janecek.

Shiner held TSD out of the end zone in the final quarter of play while adding 3 more touchdowns of their own on rushing plays by Janecek and Bell and a fumble return by Conor Kresta.

Barton completed 5 of his 11 pass attempts for 159 yards and rushed for 54 yards. He also successfully kicked 6 of his 7 extra point attempts and also completed a 2 point conversion pass to Ryan Geiger in the third quarter.

St. Paul had 332 total rushing yards on the night, led by Bell with 166 on 18 carries. Janecek also added 102 yards on 13 touches.

St. Paul advances to play Beaumont Legacy Christian on Friday November 27 at 7:30 p.m. at the Woodland's Christian Academy. The Cardinals will be the home team.
