The Cardinals recorded their fourth consecutive shutout game in Austin Friday night with a big 49-0 district win over the Texas School for the Deaf.
St. Paul wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, scoring their first touchdown on a 52-yard punt return by Nathan Pilat before they even ran a single play from scrimmage.
The Cards added 3 more touchdowns in the first quarter alone, first on a 17-yard run by T.J. Bell, then a 36-yard interception return by Marco Ynclan, and finally a short pass from Austin Barton to Colton Machart with just under a minute to go.
They continued tacking on points to their 27-0 first quarter lead with another rushing touchdown from Bell in the second quarter, and two touchdowns in the third quarter, one on a 30-yard pass from Barton to Pilat and the other on a run by Ynclan.
The Cardinals spread their 204 total rushing yards around this week with Bell contributing 73 yards on 11 carries, Jed Janecek adding 63 on 6 carries, Ynclan running for 28 yards, and Conor Kresta for 21.
Barton completed all 4 of his attempted passes for 65 yards and 2 touchdowns and 4 out of his 5 extra point kicks were good.
St. Paul’s defense was also dominant, holding the Rangers to 9 first downs, minus 3 rushing yards and 92 passing yards besides forcing five TSD fumbles.
The Cardinals, now 3-0 in district and 7-0 on the season, will travel to San Antonio this Friday to continue district play against St. Gerard Catholic School at 7:30 p.m.
