Friday night (September 4, 2015) saw another blowout at Comanche Stadium, this week in favor of the St. Cardinals who faced Bryan St. Joseph in their 2015 homecoming game.

St. Paul’s Jed Janecek started off the team’s good momentum with an interception St. Joseph’s first possession of the game.

The Cardinals quickly turned that opportunity into points with a 43 yard touchdown run by T.J. Bell.

On their very next drive, quarterback Austin Barton connected with Colton Machart in the end zone on a 22 yard pass to put the Cardinals up 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.

St. Paul’s offense exploded in the second quarter, putting four more touchdowns up on the scoreboard.

They started off the scoring frenzy on the very first play of the quarter with a 24 yard pass from Baron to Bell. Bell scored on the next Cardinal possession as well, running the ball in from first and goal.

The stage for the third Cardinal touchdown of the quarter was set when Machart recovered the ball in Eagle territory after St. Joseph fumbled on the snap. On the next play, Barton sent another 22 yard pass flying to receiver Nathan Pilat for another 6 points.

Conor Kresta rounded out the second quarter scoring on a 52 yard run with just over a minute to go, sending the Cards into halftime with a 40-0 lead.

Coach Jake Wachsmuth said, "At that point, you just have to adjust your thinking a little bit. We didn’t get to do as much as we wanted to do with our starters, but obviously we had a lot of kids able to play. It was a good night."

With that game plan shift in mind, the Cardinal offense slowed things down in the second half and added just one more touchdown in the third quarter on a 44 yard Kresta run. The extra point kick from Austin Barton put the Cardinal lead at 47-0, where it would stay for the remainder of the game.

Bell, who led the team rushing with 129 yards on 9 carries, said, "Winning homecoming tonight felt really good. We played really good and executed really well. Our line was getting blocks downfield and there were big holes there, so we took advantage of that."

Next Friday (September 11, 2015) the Cardinals travel to Somerville to take on the (0-2) Yeguas.
