St. Paul tops Wildcats in season opener

The St. Paul Cardinals traveled to Yorktown Friday (August 28, 2015) night and brought home a big 26-8 win in their season opener against the Wildcats.

The Cardinals were the first on the scoreboard with 68-yard run by Austin Barton in the first quarter on their first possession of the game.

Yorktown answered with a touchdown of their own in the second quarter and took the lead with a successful two- point conversion.

St. Paul went into halftime trailing 8-7.

Just under three minutes into the second half, St. Paul regained the lead with a 24-yard touchdown pass from Barton to Colton Machart.

The Cardinal defense held the Wildcats scoreless for the remainder of the game, while the offense kept tacking on points to St. Paul’s lead with two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter on a 50-yard run by Conor Kresta and a 39-yard run by T.J. Bell.

In 27 carries on the night, the Cardinals racked up 271 rushing yards over Yorktown’s 168 yards. Bell led the team in rushing with 91 yards, followed by Barton with 73 and Kresta with 72. Barton also passed for 35 yards.

This Friday (September 04, 2015), St. Paul will host Bryan St. Joseph at Comanche Stadium for their homecoming game. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m.
