SHINER — Undefeated and without giving up a score on defense is a heck of a way to start the
district season for Shiner St. Paul. The defense for the Cardinals hasn't allowed a score in
  for of their six games.

Going against the Austin Texas School for the Deaf Rangers, the Cardinals will need to keep
improving and keep focusing in order to have some success tonight.

Head coach Jake Wachsmuth understands that focusing on the point situation isn't something
the team is trying to do.

"We've been fortunate on some plays," he said.

But as long as they "keep doing what we're doing," the defense will continue to have this success.

Austin TSD comes in to the game 4-1, with a 1-0 district record. Their offense will rely on to
basic formations, with the team coming in tight with double tight ends and three running backs.
However, when they spread it out they tend to throw the ball.

"What they do have is some pretty good skill players," Wachsmuth said. "They are every bit as
fast if not faster than anyone we've played."

Some players to look out for is senior quarterback #2 and running back #21.

There hasn't been much turnover since last season, Wachsmuth said, so the team is pretty much
the same other than they're a lot better.

On defense, the Rangers play a lot of man coverage.

"I think they're going to crowd the ball, put pressure on you, be pretty aggressive," Wachsmuth said.

When asked if the aggressiveness was going to force the Cardinals to implement their passing
game more, the head coach will be taking a wait-and-see approach to react to the way Austin TSD will play.

The Cardinals are on the road against Austin TSD tonight (October 9,2015), with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m .
