Shiner St. Paul has its second straight home contest as it hosts Schertz John Paul II in its district opener.
Week 5 Game Preview: Schertz John Paul II at Shiner St. Paul
The Cardinals kick off district play as Schertz John Paul II visits Comanche Stadium at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow (Friday, September 25, 2015).
"It is our first district game so everything changes," St. Paul head coach Jake Wachsmuth said.
"John Paul II improves every year we play them. This year, they have won their last three games and are coming in with confidence."
The Guardians run the Wing-T on offense and will pound the ball on the ground.
"We have to learn what they like to do," Wachsmuth said. "The formations they use will lend themselves to certain plays."
St. Paul also needs to improve defensive pursuit.
"Last week was not our best night of pursuing the football," he said.
On offense, the Cardinals made some good plays in their last game against Flatonia but still have areas to improve.
"We had penalties, turnovers and missed assignments. Those hurt us and we need to be able to fix the correctable mistakes," Wachsmuth said.
Key players for the Guardians are RB-FS Mark Cooper,OL Alex Mitchell, QB Hunter Albrecht and LB Andy Velasquez.
