  SHINER - Israel Charles snared two touchdown passes and then made a thrilling,
  99-yard interception return as the Pettus Eagles rolled to a 26-6 win over the
  Shiner St. Paul Cardinals Friday in the season opener for both teams.
  
  Charles snagged touchdown passes of 12 and 3 yards from quarterback Jake
  Stanley, who completed 7 of 12 passes for 58 yards. Charles had four
  receptions for 20 yards while Stanley was the Eagles top runner with 65 yards
  on 11 carries.
  
  Pettus rolled up 294 yards of offense while St. Paul 219 yards of offense.
  However, the Cardinals fumbled nine times and lost three and had two passes
  picked off.
  
  St. Paul started the game strongly as Gil Hodges, who was the game's leading
  rusher with 158 yards on 20 carries, scored on a 2-yard run with 7:49 left in
  the first quarter. Pettus blocked the conversion kick by Hodges, who also had
  three catches for 40 yards.
  
  Pettus scored twice in the second quarter - on a 12-yard touchdown pass to
  Charles with 10:21 left in the half and on a 30-yard run by Mauro Torres with
  25 seconds left in the half. Torres picked up 55 yards on six carries.
  
  Charles caught his 3-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter and then made
  his 99-yard pass interception return with just 4:02 left to play. Stanley and
  Justin Duran each made one conversion kick.
