SHINER - Gil Hodges and the Shiner St. Paul Cardinals turned out the lights of Galveston O'Connell, literally.
The TAPPS Division IV bi-district contest was delayed for nearly 45 minutes when the lights went out at Comanche Stadium. O'Connell may have wished they never came back on.
Hodges ran for 199 yards and seven touchdowns as the Cardinals (9-2) rolled to a 70-6 victory.
Hodges scored on runs of 18 and 10 yards in the first quarter and added four more trips to the end zone in the second quarter.
In a 9 minute time frame Hodges scored on runs of 14, 19, 20, 69 and 15 yards as the Cardinals went up 50-0.
Brandon Sciba finished off the first-half scoring when he returned an interception 41 yards.
Josh Soto added a 5-yard scoring run in the third quarter and Brett Hodges ran in from 8 yards out.
O'Connell's lone score came on a 12-yard run by James Jones with 4:27 to play.
