WACO - Sacred Heart coach Pat Henke had confidence in his freshman pitcher Emily Gallia and she didn't let him down.

Gallia (5-3) tossed a three-hitter in a 9-2 Tapps 2A state semifinal win over Waco Texas Christian Friday morning, putting Sacred Heart in the state finals for the third year in a row.

Sacred Heart will face nemesis St. Paul (20-6), which beat Bryan St. Joseph 10-0 in Friday's other semifinal, today at 4 p.m. at Belton's Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Gallia struck out four in the route-going performance and only her wildness in the fourth inning kept her from pitching a shutout.

"Emily pitched well," said Henke, who eliminated Texas Christian in the semifinals for the third year in a row. "She had a little wild streak, but other than that, she was pretty much in control."

Michele Sevcik, who will be the starting pitcher in today's championship game against St. Paul, led a 13-hit Indianette attack by going 4-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored.

"We hit the ball very well," Henke said. "We did a lot of little things like lay down bunts in key situations."

The Indianettes, 14-11, also played an errorless game. "We made the routine plays and the non-routine plays." Henke said.

Sacred Heart led 6-2 before pulling away with a three-run seventh inning.

Sevcik got Indianettes going in the top of the second inning with a double and scored on Stephanie Tobola's base hit. Tobola stole second and moved to third on a single by Heather Kolacny. A bunt single by Patience Clark scored Tobola and Kolacny came in on Casey Leopold's sacrifice bunt.

The Indianettes tacked on two more runs in the third on two hits and an error. Sevcik doubled in one run and another scored when Tobola was safe on third baseman Amy Fyke's throwing error.

Texas Christian trimmed the lead to 5-2 in the fourth when Gallia hit the wild streak, hitting two batters, walking one and ceding one hit. Gallia averted further damage when she got Fyke to pop out with runners on the corners.

Gallia's sacrifice fly in the fifth made it 6-2. It scored Steinocher, who had walked and went to third on a single by Sevcik,

A two-run single by Sevcik highlighted the three-run seventh inning, while the other run scored on a base hit by Kolacny.

Texas Christian (10-5) had the lead off hitter reach base on four occassions but could take advantage only once.

Steinocher was 2-for-3 and scored three runs, while Kolacny had two hits in four trips with two runs batted in.

This is the third straight year the teams have met for the 2A title. St. Paul won last year and Sacred Heart won in 2003.
