SHINER -- It has been two weeks since the St. Paul football team last took the field.

The Cardinals return to action tonight at 7:30 when they travel to San Antonio
to take on winless St. Gerard in a TAPPS Division IV-District 3 contest. Although
the Royals are winless, St. Paul (5-2, 0-1 in TAPPS DIV-District 3) isn’t taking
  the Royals lightly.

"They have some good-looking athletes," St. Paul coach Paul Johnston said. "They’re
a spread team who likes to mix it up."

St. Gerard (0-8, 0-2 in DIV-District 3) is working with its second quarterback in
Ernest McFadden. The sophomore started the year at tight end and caught 11 passes
for 211 yards and three touchdowns before making the move to quarterback.

At quarterback, McFadden has passed for 183 yards and is the team’s No. 2 rusher
with 103 yards. Greg Scott is the leading rusher with 154 yards and Glen Jackson
is the top receiver with 14 catches for 232 yards.

Defensively, the Royals operate out of an odd front. Johnston also believes that
St. Gerard will give his offensive line a good test.

"They’ve been known to blitz so we have to pick up their blitzes," he said.

The Cardinals are coming off of a 42-19 loss to Brazos Christian on Oct. 8. It is
unclear whether or not all of the St. Paul players will be available tonight as
receivers Martin Kennedy and Dylan Barton are both coming off of injuries.

"Martin and Dylan are day-to-day and we will make a game-time decision on their
  playing statuses," Johnston said.
